Season one · British Columbia

Fantasy football.
For birds.

Draft a roster of real species. Every week your starters score on how often birders actually saw them — pulled straight from eBird. Rare bird, huge multiplier. House Sparrow, pennies.

Rarity is the whole strategy

Every species is weighted by how often it is normally reported in your region. A crow at a thousand places is worth 0.1 a sighting. A bird usually seen once is worth 100 — if it shows.

Migration is the season

Species arrive and leave on a real calendar. Your star warbler has a bye in January because it is in Colombia. The waiver wire refills every spring.

Geography is a handicap

A league scoped to coastal BC plays a different pool, a different rarity curve and a different calendar from one scoped to Arizona.
